Henrietta Said is a new line of spicy nut snacks developed by Truly Good Foods, a specialty snack food producer who’s been in business since the ’70s. I enjoy having some nuts to snack on at work so I’d ordered the Henrietta Said variety pack from Amazon in order to try out all of the flavors as some looked quite creative. Unfortunately what Amazon send me was a five pack of the Original Buffalo flavor instead of the variety pack, so I’ll have to come back around to that in the future.

In terms of ingredients the Henrietta Said Original Buffalo peanuts are mostly straightforward with just a couple of exceptions. Peanuts, peanut oil, powdered vinegary and hot sauce along with some spices makes up most of the list. Maltodextrin is used to create the ‘powders’ of the vinegar and hot sauce. The only quibble I have with the ingredients is the inclusion of “extractives of paprika” which is sometimes used as another term of oleoresin capsicum, or pepper extract. It’s not needed which actual dried peppers or paprika could be used.

In terms of flavor these are very well seasoned. There’s a great vinegar tang, and it does taste like peanuts are infused with some traditional Louisiana style hot sauce. The nuts are also nicely firm with a good crunch and peanut flavor. It would be nice if perhaps there was a little more complexity to the flavor, perhaps a bit of garlic or blue cheese dust, but as they are they’re still quite tasty. The heat level is minimal, no one should have any issues in terms of handling that aspect.

I’ll go ahead and recommend the Henrietta Said Original Buffalo Peanuts. While they’re on the higher priced side for the quantity you get they’re seasoned well and overall made with quality ingredients. I do look forward to trying the other flavors from the company in the future.
