Seed Ranch Flavor Co. – Smoky Ghost Hot Sauce

Seed Ranch is one of the craft hot sauce companies that I particularly love because of their tendency to create unique blends of flavor. This sauce is a play on a traditional Chipotle Sauce, but ends up being so much more.

I’ll admit that I’m generally not a big fan of Chipotle Sauces, mainly because the sweetness and smoke often overpower everything else, and the result is a bit one-note.

This sauce thankfully does not have that problem. The addition of Ghost Peppers to the Chipotle Peppers brings some much needed heat to the party, and since Ghost Peppers have a naturally smoky taste on their own, it’s a perfect match. The fruity elements from the dates, carrots, and apples add some freshness and a little background funkyness, while the cumin and garlic make sure the flavor profile leans savory rather than sweet.

Thick, dark, and smooth, this sauce is much more complex than your typical Chipotle sauce, almost bordering on a mole, but still remaining on the fresher more spice-forward side of that line.

As one would expect it’s a natural pairing with Mexican cuisine, but also works phenomenally well on roasted turkey, steak sandwiches, and chicken tenders.

Ingredients: White Vinegar, Water, Chipotle Peppers, Carrots, Dates, Ghost Peppers, Garlic, Apple, Cumin, Salt, Black Pepper

Heat Level: 4/10. There’s some slow burn here to wake up the tastebuds, but it’s still a very accessible sauce that even non chile-heads can enjoy.
