Butterfly Bakery of Vermont – Habanero Lime Switchback Craft Beer Hot Sauce

Butterfly Bakery of Vermont is no stranger to beer hot sauce collaborations, and in fact the first sauce I ever tasted from the company, their Vienna Lager Mustard Hot Sauce, was one such example. That sauce became an instant favorite of mine, and subsequent sauces I’ve tasted from the company have not disappointed.

This sauce features ripe red habaneros combined with Switchback Ale and lime juice in addition to the vinegar. The result is a sauce that’s both rich and bright at the same time, with a great freshness of flavor and a solid amount of tang.

The consistency is rather thin and smooth, so this pours quickly and evenly over anything you’d like to top with it. The bottle suggests seafood, cocktails, and tacos, and I can confirm that this is an excellent topping for shrimp as well as used in a Bloody Mary. I could also see this being very nice in raw oysters, but as we’re getting out of the best season for fresh raw oysters that will have to wait until the autumn (though I know this bottle will be long gone by then).

In addition to their suggestions the bright tangy flavor goes well with any sandwich or meat dish. This is a versatile sauce, and the heat level, though shown as five out of six peppers on the bottle, is fairly moderate so this will be easily accessible for most people and a walk in the park for any chile-head.

Ingredients: Dutchess Farm red habaneros, organic distilled white vinegar, Switchback Ale, organic lime juice, salt.

Heat Level: Bottle Legend says 5/6, I’d rank it 3/10 on an absolute scale
